Making a Choice
There are few things more disruptive to a relationship than family interference, and this is a good reason to consider staying out of a relationship. Some people are willing to take the time to speak with their family about what they want, but others use it as a way to control their partner. Rather than standing up for a valued partner, they instead let their partner know they are being forced to choose them over family. This red flag should be a deal breaker.
When a person states they are being forced to choose between their family and their date, they are really using a guilt tactic to gain an advantage. Family members are relatives, and they cannot be chosen unless adoption is an issue. A partner is someone a dater chooses to be with, and giving family sway over the relationship should be a sign to their partner that it is time to leave.
